The Switchback offers a 33% increase in steering angle compared with the regular sized Rocky Mountain bumper, while still maintaining the proper frame crash protection.
Made from durable nylon with rubber bumper pads. Installs using your stock hardware.
Replaces the stock regular sized bumper on your 2022+ Rocky Mountain Gen2 Powerplay Altitude and Powerplay Instinct, with either carbon or aluminum frame.
It took Ryan awhile to sort out his 2024 Powerplay C70:
"One thing drove me crazy about this bike was the steering bumper being in the way. I used to hit the stops on tight switchbacks or just goofing around. So I decided to make a new steering bumper to solve the issue. The Switchback works with the Fox 36/38 Grip1, Grip2, Grip X2, and Rockshox Lyrik/RockShox ZEB with the charger systems.
At NM Motorsports, we've been making custom car parts for some time now, and that has been our main focus. Now we're starting to branch out into the bike market with this new bumper. So why did this become a thing? Well, we started out because we wanted to make car parts for ourselves but to justify the cost of making one, we ended up making extra to sell for the lowest price possible."
Installation:
The Switchback is installed using the stock hardware and new 3M VHB double sided tape:
- Remove your stock bumper from your frame by removing the screw and pulling the bumper off. Remove any remaining double sided tape.
- Clean your frame with the included alcohol wipes.
- Remove the protective cover on the double sided tape.
- Install the Switchback with the pointy side aiming up/forward.
- Reinstall your stock screw, max 7nm of torque.
- Check the clearance between your dampers and the frame, to ensure the damper will land on the Switchback bumper.
- NOTE: The Grip1 has the tightest clearance so make sure it lands on the Switchback bumper. You will still have full lock out but will lose the 10% max stiffness of the Grip1, and at that point you should be adding air to your forks anyways.
